I chose this pink dress and pink blazer combination as the “poster” fit of Dresses and Blazers because well, it fit’s the name of the blog – Dresses and Blazers. Although this blog is entitled “Dresses and Blazers”, if you’ve been here for more than five minutes you’ll see that the only fashion showcased isn’t exclusively dresses and blazers only. However, to neglect confusing people I chose an actual dress and blazer to wear for the introduction to the cyber world (you’re welcome). In one photo the complete essence of the style of fashion I will continually promote on DAB is captured: chic, elegant, powerful, and classic. Another reason this outfit combination won is because both pieces of the outfit are shades of pink (even though I’m aware the dress may look white to you), and is paired with a nude heel. These colors are commonly associated with femininity. Although the experiences and topics discussed on DAB are useful for all professionals, the inspiration behind DAB is women’s achievement in the workplace. To be honest, before preparing for the initial blog launch photo shoot, I’ve never worn this combination before (which made me sad upon first trying it on – missed opportunities!).
Outfit details:
The dress I’m wearing is made by Calvin Klein. I found this gem for a steal at Marshalls. Marshalls is good for finding good sweaters, designer button-down oxford shirts, and dresses. The items with the best quality are usually segregated, in a section or rack of their own. I usually stay away from the racks containing everything when searching for work clothes. If the brand is not separated with its own rack (usually the Ralph Laurens, Calvin Klein, etc.) it is usually of lower quality and will have a higher tendency to wrinkle quicker and shrink after the first wash.
The blazer is from Express. The reason I never thought to pair this blazer with this dress is because I purchased it as part of a complete pants suit. In styling for the blog launch photoshoot I’ve remembered a valuable lesson for fashion and styling: don’t hesitate to mix and match! Some of the best outfit combinations derive from spontaneous pairings. Cheers!
